The Kissimmee section of the Florida Trail follows the sinuous flow of the Kissimmee River north to its sources around the Orlando metro area. Hiking ranges from easy to rugged as you meander through open prairies and deeply shaded oak hammocks, crossing sloughs on bridges and boardwalks. Hikers discover Florida history along the way, since the trail follows the cattle drover routes used by pioneers in the 1800s and passes through the ghost town of Kicco and several plantations for which the hammocks are named.
