The infamous Bradwell Bay Wilderness is on FIRE! Don’t panic, it’s completely natural. Fire is just Mother Nature’s way of doing a little house cleaning around the forest. However, Ma Nature can leave a bit of a mess behind, too. Several years ago a large wildfire blazed through the Wilderness and, although it is recovering nicely, some of those big old dead trees are falling down and they always seem to fall right onto the trail. No chainsaws allowed in the Wilderness, so we broke out all of the traditional hand tools for this one to clean up “one of the 10 toughest hikes in the US” according to Backpacker Magazine.
