The Juniper Prairie Wilderness is a special place in the Ocala National Forest, a roadless zone that is one of the most popular segments of the Florida Trail. In November 2007, our trail crew paddled in to the heart of the Juniper Prairie Wilderness for a week of backcountry camping and trail work, floating our tools and supplies down Juniper Run to spend 5 days out on the trail. No power tools are allowed in the Wilderness area, so crosscut saws and axes were our primary tools. Hosted by the Halifax-St Johns Chapter, the base camp was primitive and all equipment brought in by canoe, a first for F-Troop! Training included Wilderness Leave No Trace practices and Traditional Tools.
