Little Manatee River State Park provides access to a preserved sliver of wilderness along the river, encompassing a variety of habitats, numerous waterways and one of the most beautiful creeks in the state. There is a loop trail which is 6.5 miles, but this hike can be shortened to 2.9 miles by taking the blue-blazed cross trail. On this F-Troop in April 2008 we spent a weekend tearing out one of the old bridges and replacing it with a new one. This trail is not connected to the Florida National Scenic Trail, but is a part of the Florida Trail System. The project was hosted by the Suncoast Chapter and sponsored in part by a grant from the American Hiking Society, with additional funding from Florida State Parks and the National Forests Foundation.
